Grant Featherston (1922-1995)


Grant Featherston was born in Geelong Victoria, Australia. He was self-taught and originally designed lighting and glass panels before serving in the army from 1940-1944. Upon returning to Melbourne, Featherstone produced the first of his famous Contour chairs in 1951 and opened his first showroom in 1956. 


Featherstone was a founding member of the Society of Designers for Industry which was the forerunner to the Design Institute of Australia. His designs received many prestigeous Design Awards and he is represented in the collections of National and State galleries and museums.
