The Poul Volther Style Corona Chair is a high quality reproduction in the style of the original design.
The Corona Chair was originally designed by Poul Volther in 1958 and the chair is inspired by the strength and flexibility of the human spine. The concentric shapes on the backrest can also be used as armrests so it balances aesthetic apeal with superb comfort.
Poul M. Volther (1923-2001) first trained as a cabinetmaker and studied furniture design at the Arts and Crafts School in Copenhagen. He was a believer in functionalism and avoided short-lived aesthetic trends, concentrating on the simple crafting of fine materials. As a teacher at Denmark's Design School, he encouraged hundreds of students to aim for high quality craftsmanship. He designed a wide variety of armchairs and sofas which can still be seen in homes throughout Denmark but the Corona chair is without comparison his most famous design.
The name Paul Volther is only used to describe the characteristics of the goods made to the original design, and not as a trade mark.
